Isabella (Isa) Mireles is a sophomore at the University of California, Irvine, studying Political Science with double minors in Spanish and Humanities and Law. A pediatric cancer survivor, she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at age two. Her experience navigating survivorship has fueled her passion for patient advocacy and healthcare policy, particularly in ensuring cancer patients have access to the resources and support they need.
Isa is the President and Founder of UCI’s Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Club, leading efforts in fundraising, policy advocacy, education, and research on campus. In recognition of her dedication, she was named LLS Orange County’s 2025 Visionaries Honorary Hero, a role that allows her to share her story and inspire others to join the fight against blood cancer. Isa has also led fundraising efforts for the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation and served as an Advisory Committee Member for Cancer Hope Network, where she helped develop peer mentorship programs for caregivers of pediatric cancer patients.
Beyond advocacy, Isa is passionate about research and policy. She has contributed to projects on mass carceral events through UCI’s Citizenship Lab and plans to continue research in the intersection of law, healthcare, and patient rights. She also serves as the Director of Fundraising for the UCI Pre-Law Latinx Association, helping increase Latinx representation in legal education..
Isa hopes to pursue a J.D. specializing in Health Law, using her experiences as both a survivor and advocate to support cancer patients and their families.
