Alongside her children, Mary Beth Kropp co-founded Big Mike's Bottom Line (BMBL) in 2023, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing the burden of colorectal cancer through education, advocacy, and community engagement. Following the loss of her husband, Michael, to colorectal cancer at age 54, she committed herself to ensuring that other families have the knowledge and confidence to recognize symptoms early, understand their screening options, and seek timely care.
An active member of the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition (C4), Mary Beth collaborates with advocates, clinicians, researchers, and healthcare leaders to advance policies and partnerships that improve colorectal cancer prevention, early detection, and equitable access to care throughout California. Through her involvement with C4, she became aware of the opportunity to apply for the inaugural California Dialogue on Cancer (CDOC) Consumer Patient Advisory Group (CPAG) and was honored to be selected as one of its founding members. She brings the perspective of a caregiver, advocate, educator, and nonprofit leader to help ensure patient and caregiver voices help shape statewide cancer initiatives.
Through Big Mike's Bottom Line, Mary Beth leads grassroots efforts that normalize conversations about colorectal health, reduce stigma, and empower people to take action before a diagnosis becomes a crisis. She believes education empowers action—and that changing the trajectory of colorectal cancer begins by changing the conversation.
