Hilary Gan

Teen Cancer America

Hilary was never the kind of person to let a dream stay a dream. After working for 20 years as a Child Life Specialist in hematology/oncology with a focus on the adolescent and young adult (AYA) population, Hilary knew things had to change, not just at her own institution but on a national level. As the Director of Hospital Programs and Services at Teen Cancer America (TCA), Hilary has worked tirelessly to create and implement one goal: that every AYA diagnosed with cancer has access to age-appropriate, specialized, and comprehensive AYA programs and space, no matter where they are treated in the United States.

Hilary leads her team in supporting hospitals throughout the country in the development of a comprehensive AYA program that spans both pediatric and adult care specialists. With the establishment of an extensive strategic guide and personalized consultation, she guides the hospitals in the creation of individualized models of care designed especially for each institution, by each institution. These programs provide access to the key components necessary to best meet the unique needs of the AYA population at their institution in order to treat them as a whole person and not just a cancer.

In just 10 years, TCA has been honored to partner with over 40 different hospitals and their healthcare teams and we have over 100 more in consultation with us. Teen Cancer America has risen to the forefront of AYA oncology in defining what constitutes comprehensive AYA cancer care.
